AIIMS Delhi, the premier teaching hospital of India, is making strides to prepare for the future in what is being termed as “Amrit Kaal.” This involves integrating cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), drones, and robotics into their healthcare practices.
Directed by M. Srinivas, the AIIMS administration is actively promoting research and implementation of AI, drones, and robotics to streamline the delivery of medical supplies, a task often hindered by issues like traffic congestion.
The Indian Council of Medical Research and AIIMS-Rishikesh have already carried out successful trials for drone delivery, reflecting the government’s vision of Amrit Kaal as an era of hope, empowerment, and an inclusive economy.
Being the busiest healthcare facility in the country, with over 25,000 patients daily, AIIMS Delhi recognizes the potential of AI, drones, and robotics to revolutionize healthcare delivery.
Several states, including Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, have begun piloting drones to deliver emergency medical supplies, such as vaccines, anti-snake venom, life-saving drugs, and diagnostic lab samples using a Hub & Spoke model.
Furthermore, AI-powered diagnostic tools are being developed to aid doctors in accurate patient diagnosis, suggesting suitable treatments, medications, investigations, and advice. AI models can analyze medical images from X-ray machines or smartphone cameras, detecting subtle abnormalities that may indicate the presence of a disease.
Through the adoption of AI, drones, and robotics, AIIMS Delhi is taking significant steps to enhance healthcare delivery and ensure the well-being of its patients.
